There is a company called VETDNA that will test sample swabs taken from a host and environment to properly diagnose your bird mite, however it is noted quite specifically that the company only diagnoses animals and not humans. A swab is a swab, people. Doesn’t matter what your source is. There’s a significant number of mite species you can test for, that test you can obtain here.

Each mite has a different characteristic and there are different ways to treat for each mite accordingly. I highly recommend bird mite groups on facebook, this is where I sourced a lot of helpful information on my path to healing. You might notice that what works for some may not work for you, and that’s probably because you’re dealing with a different type of mite than they are. My suggestion is to be very specific about what you’re experiencing, and explain in full detail the symptoms you are afflicted with. My next suggestion, and this is a very important one, find a friend in one of those facebook groups. I met my best friend in a bird mite group. She is now one of the most important people in my life. I don’t know where I’d be without her, honestly I’m not sure I would have made it. We went through a war together, we sustained so much trauma that it would have broken us completely had we not had one another’s shoulder to cry on. She means the world to me. Her attacks started when someone gave her an infested chicken and she unknowingly joined it with the other chickens in her coop. The entire coop became infested and she had no choice but to euthanize her chickens, and at that point the mites made my friend their new home. It’s the most heart wrenching story of loss and devastation, had she kept the chickens alive she might have been spared but their suffering would have sustained. She saved their lives and took on their suffering. She is my hero.

I’m working on an identificaton chart so you can more properly determine which mite you think you may be afflicted with, since there are no resources out there for us besides our own personal experience. I’ll get back with more answers.
